About Us


The Cancer Council South Australia is the state’s leading non-Government cancer control and support organisation, funding research, support services and education programs.

Through the generous community donations received, The Cancer Council SA is able to fund the following initiatives each year:

  • provide more than $2.6 million in funding towards South Australian based, cancer research projects

  • facilitate about 7,500 calls on The Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20

  • provide one-to-one telephone support and/or face to face counselling to more than 1,100 new cancer patients

  • provide more than 8,000 country guests low cost accommodation during their cancer treatment in Adelaide (at Flinders, Greenhill and Seaview lodges)

  • provide almost 10,500 bus trips to transport country people between citybased accommodation and cancer treatment centres

  • take the SunSmart message to children in more than 1,000 early childhood centres and schools

  • distribute about 300,000 resources to cancer treatment centres, schools, workplaces, healthcare centres and the wider community

  • deliver about 300 presentations to workplace, professional and community groups

  • facilitate the Staying healthy after cancer workshops.



The Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20

The Cancer Council Helpline provides information and support to the South Australian community. People can call the Helpline via the telephone on 13 11 20, drop in and visit face to face, send an email, a letter or a fax. A language translating service is available which can be accessed promptly for no charge.

The Cancer Council Helpline is a confidential service, staffed by experienced nurse counsellors who:
  • provide information about cancer prevention and early detection
  • help clarify medical terms, procedures and treatments
  • offer emotional support to those affected by cancer
  • provide information about services, supports and other programs offered in South Australia.
The Cancer Council Helpline operates from 8.30 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday in South Australia (excluding public holidays). People can call the Helpline from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call.
