Hats at school and early childhood centres

Hats should give plenty of shade to your face, neck and ears. It’s a good idea to consult widely with students, staff and parents before introducing one of three hat styles – broad brimmed, bucket or legionnaire hats.

All students and staff wear a hat that gives good cover to the face, neck
and ears whenever they are outside from beginning of September till end
April and when the UV is 3 and above outside of these times
.

Hat wearing is not recommended for most students when the UV is below 3
      from May to August.

Bucket hats must have a deep crown and minimum 5cm brim for children under
5 years of age and 6cms for older children and adults.

Baseball caps and sun visors are NOT recommended as they leave the ears
and back of the neck exposed.

Baseball caps are not allowed even on casual days.

Things to think about

    good sun protection
ventilation if the hat will be used during physical activity or warmer weather
    fashion trends
