Troy Flower - General Manager Business Development Unit

Troy has had a diverse background and brings a range of experiences across multiple industries/sectors to his role as General Manager.  His career profile features running his own successful photography business, international tour leading, managing marketing and media for an alpine resort and a national theatre company to his most recent role as a regional sales director for a Danish pharmaceutical company.  Troy was promoted in May 2009 from his role as Fundraising Manager with Cancer Council into the general management role.  

Bringing with him a scientific perspective since completing a bachelor in applied science in 1992, he questions everything, and is currently undertaking further study to complete an MBA at the University of Adelaide.  He is committed to encouraging a healthy lifestyle and is an avid cyclist and runner.  He rides his bike to work and walked 10km to and from work on Cancer Council Walk to Work Day in 2011, just for fun!  

Working with a passionate and skilled team of staff and volunteers he oversees our retail operations (budget $1.5m p.a.), all fundraising activities (budget $10.3m p.a.) and our community engagement, marketing, communications and public relations operations.  

Driven by the goal of beating cancer Troy moved from the corporate world to join Cancer Council after losing his mother-in-law and father-in-law to Cancer.  He brings corporate expertise into help maximise outcomes in the fight to beat cancer.  He truly believes that by harnessing and uniting the skills, experiences and passion within the community, we will defeat cancer.   

 
 Caroline Miller - General Manager Cancer Control

Caroline is the General Manager for Cancer Control at Cancer Council SA, encompassing Quit SA, Cancer Support, Cancer Prevention, Advocacy and Behavioural Research and Evaluation Unit. Prior to this role she established and managed South Australia’s Tobacco Control Research and Evaluation program. 

Caroline has qualifications in Psychology, Economics and Public Health and is working towards a PhD in the field of social marketing. She is also an Associate Lecturer in Discipline of Public Health at University of Adelaide.

Her research interests are in interventions to bring about population-based behaviour change and chronic disease prevention. She has worked on several anti-tobacco social marketing campaigns. Her other work has included: evaluating and developing standards for the Australian National Quitline Service; a research trial of Nicotine Replacement Therapy for low income smokers; and evaluating the impact of tobacco control policy changes such as smoke-free legislation. 

She is Chair of Cancer Council Australia and Heart Foundation’s Tobacco Issues Committee, Deputy Chair of Cancer Council Australia’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Committee, Chair of South Australian Government’s Tobacco Control Social Marketing Committee and past president of the SA Branch of Public Health Association Australia.

She is a member of the Australian Government’s Expert Advisory Committee Plain Packaging and the National Preventive Health Agency’s Expert Advisory Committee of Tobacco Control.
