The Cancer Council South Australia provides affordable and caring accommodation for people who live in rural and remote areas whilst undergoing cancer treatment in Adelaide. A transport service provides transport to treatment centres.
A social worker is available to help with Guests who live more than 100km from the Adelaide CBD are eligible to receive reimbursement for accommodation and travel through the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) - call 08 8226 6550 for more information. Medical software patient factsheets The Cancer Council Australia has developed a series of concise one page patient factsheets to help GPs and other health professionals advise their patients about cancer prevention, screening and diagnosis. Available from Community education Our Speakers' Bureau provides a team of trained speakers who present cancer information to groups. We provide a free Cancer Counselling Service to people affected by cancer, their family and carers. This service is specifically designed to meet the needs of people who have difficulty accessing support that relates to their cancer experience.
Our counsellors are professionally trained and experienced in helping people with cancer. The service offers brief face-to-face counselling interventions, although people can access it again as their needs change. This service can provide your patients with; Your patients can arrange a session by calling The Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20. Factsheets are also accessible in some medical software programs (eg Medical Director: Click Resources tab, then Patient Education, scroll to The Cancer Council files).
Peer support Cancer Connect
The Cancer Connect program offers people with cancer and their partners/carers an opportunity to talk with someone who has had a similar experience. Trained volunteers have either had cancer or have cared for someone with cancer.
Cancer Connect is confidential and free of charge to people living in metropolitan and country areas.

Cancer support groups
Cancer support groups allow people going through a similar cancer experience to meet together. Most groups are open to people with cancer, their family and friends.
