Rules

These rules apply to everyone participating in Relay for Life.

It is the responsibility of the Organising Committee to enforce these rules.

1. All entrants participate in teams. Each team is to consist of at least ten runners/walkers. The team and or its sponsor are responsible for paying the team registration fee of $10 per team member, and for providing any other support needed, such as food, rain gear, shelter etc.

2. Persons unable to walk or run because of age or disability may still form a team and enjoy the activities. These teams are referred to as trackless teams. Trackless teams must abide by all of the rules set forth here, but are not required to walk, run or record laps.

3. One member of each team must be on the track at all times. A second member of the team must be on duty to record the participants’ laps (optional). Friends or relatives may accompany a designated walker, but when they are doing this, their laps are not credited to any team.

4. Lap counting is optional. Teams will be responsible for counting their own laps. Lap books and a procedure for counting laps will be provided at the event. It is the responsibility of the Team Captain to report the number of completed laps to an Official when announced.

5. Participants are encouraged to walk or run in 30-minute increments. Teams, under the direction of the Captains, will establish their own times and complete a roster. The roster should be worked out in advance and copies given to each team member so that there is no question as to whose turn it is to be on the track. Substitutions during the half-hour intervals are allowed for injuries or fatigue.

6.The two inside lanes of the track are reserved for runners, and the remaining outside lanes are for walkers. Walkers should take care not to get in the way of runners.

7.The running/walking direction will be reversed at four hourly intervals.

8. There will be a Team Captain’s meeting at the track half an hour before the start. Captains or a team representative are expected to attend.

9. Trophies will be given to the team that raises the most money, and to the individual who raises the most money. Acknowledgment will also be given to the team and individual who completes the most laps of the track. This will take place at the Closing Ceremony.

10. All teams should mark their tents with the name of their team so that the officials can locate people.

11. No pets or animals are allowed at the event.

12. No tobacco allowed at the event. Alcohol is permitted, but strictly in moderation. Many venues may choose to be completely alcohol free.

13. Roller blades, roller skates, bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not allowed. Baby strollers and wheel chairs are permitted.

14. Team Captains are responsible for the actions of team members and their families.

15. School aged teams (under 18 years of age) must have at least two responsible adults (over 21 years of age) present throughout the event. Each school age participant must also provide the name and phone number of two guardians on their registration form.

Venues must follow the curfew times issued by their local council. To allow participants to sleep, a total noise curfew should apply between 2am - 6am. During this time there should be no loud talking or laughing at all.
