Seeding Grants for Data Manager Support

Request for applications

Closing Date: Friday 9th April 2010

In 2009, Cancer Council seeding grants were provided for data manager support for clinical cancer databases in SA. A second round of data manager seeding grants of up to $35,000 is now being introduced. The purpose is to strengthen the availability and capacity of clinical cancer databases in SA for research and service monitoring.

This grants program is part of a broader cancer data infrastructure initiative in SA jointly funded by SA Health and Cancer Council SA relating to the SA Cancer Registry, hospital cancer registries and like data collections, bio-specimen data systems, and data linkage through the SA Cancer Data Grid.

Successful applications will show how the following 9 criteria will be addressed:

1.      Data collection and related operating practices will conform with best practice standards

2.      Data standards will conform with relevant national/international standards, which will be cited in the application, and there will be strong data quality control

3.      Data collection and management will conform with legal and ethical requirements

4.      The data will complement and be potentially linkable to SA cancer registry data

5.      Opportunities will exist to link the data with other relevant data through the SA Cancer Data Grid

6.      The data will support the delivery of high quality clinical services

7.      The data will support high quality research

8.      Co-funding of equivalent or greater amount will be available from a separate source

9.      Opportunities will exist for ongoing sustainability of the data collection

Priority will be given to applicants and cancer sites not in receipt of a grant in the first round. Further details are available from Cancer Council SA (contacts: Simeon Jones or David Roder, tel. 8291 4271).

Four page applications are invited that address the 9 criteria, along with CVs of applicants, including the CV of the responsible research/clinical team leader.

Please send applications as hard copy or by email.
