South Australian Cancer Research Collaborative

Commencing in 2011, CCSA is proposing to invest $2M per annum of research funding for five years in a South Australian Cancer Research Collaborative (SACRC), subject to equivalent matching funding from SA Government and possible additional funding from University of Adelaide, Flinders University and University of South Australia.

The aim of the SACRC is to leverage larger scale funding to better support a mix of large and small research enterprises.

The SACRC objectives are to: -

Ø Promote SA cancer research of the highest international standard

Ø Increase SA research involvement in biomedical, clinical, population and health services research

Ø Increase SA cancer research in areas that will lead to gains in SA health outcomes in the relatively short term

Ø Achieve a stronger SA cancer research workforce

Ø Increase research capacity and infrastructure availability

Ø Increase the proportion of national and international research funding going to SA

SACRC development is aligned with

§ South Australia’s Strategic Plan

§ Review of Health and Medical Research in South Australia 2008 (Shine/Young Report)

§ Statewide Cancer Control Plan 2006-2009

§ State of Confidence 2005

It is hoped that the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) will introduce a cancer theme, with SACRC being a part of that theme.
