Selection Criteria and Information for Applicants

Each year Cancer Council SA (CCSA) offers limited support to offset the costs of travel and accommodation for South Australian Cancer Researchers who have been invited to present their recent work at a national or international scientific meeting, or who plan to attend such meetings, or who wish to undertake short term study.
Generally, CCSA receives applications for funds far exceeding the money currently set aside for this purpose. Thus these grants-in-aid are very competitive.

Successful applicants will be chosen according to the following selection criteria:

1.    Priority will be given to applicants who wish to attend a scientific conference and: -
  • have been invited to present their work at the conference, or
  • have submitted an abstract which has been accepted ( or is highly likely to be accepted ) for presentation, or
  • have been invited to participate in a workshop or to chair a session etc., or
  • can demonstrate the value of their attendance to themselves and the SA Community

2.    The proposed activity is highly relevant to cancer control.

3.    The benefits to the applicant's career are clear and significant.

4.    The activity is congruent with the objectives of CCSA.

5.    The applicant has not received CCSA funding for a travel grant in the past two years.

6.    No tobacco industry association. CCSA will not support individuals or institutions that receive support directly or indirectly from, or are involved with organisations that are part of or funded by, the tobacco industry.

7.    The travel must be undertaken for the stated purpose and completed by 31 January of the following year.

8.    The grant is awarded on the basis the researchers institution administers the grant.

9.    Applicants should be aware that CCSA has identified the following priority areas for research:

- Cancer Prevention, Early Detection, Supportive care, including palliative care, Epidemiology and Community education. Applications in these areas are encouraged.
