Travel Grants

Open for applications

Closing Date: Friday 23rd January 2009

Each year Cancer Council SA (CCSA) offers limited support to offset the costs of travel and accommodation for South Australian Cancer Researchers who have been invited to present their recent work at a national or international scientific meeting, or who plan to attend such meetings, or who wish to undertake short term study.

Generally, CCSA receives applications for funds far exceeding the money currently set aside for this purpose. Thus these grants-in-aid are very competitive.

Successful applicants will be chosen according to the following criteria:

1. Priority will be given to applicants who wish to attend a scientific conference and: -
  • have been invited to present their work at the conference, or
  • have submitted an abstract which has been accepted (or is highly likely to be accepted) for presentation, or
  • have been invited to participate in a workshop or to chair a session etc., or
  • can demonstrate the value of their attendance to themselves and the SA Community

2. The proposed activity is highly relevant to cancer control.

3. The benefits to the applicant's career are clear and significant.

4. The activity is congruent with the objectives of CCSA

5. An individual researcher may make only one application in any 12-month period.

6. Applicants should be aware that CCSA has identified the following priority areas for research: Cancer Prevention, Early Detection, Supportive care, including palliative care, Epidemiology and Community education. Applications in these areas are particularly encouraged.

To apply you will need to provide the following information: -

a brief Curriculum Vitae with publications listed
  • coversheet - available here
  • a brief Curriculum Vitae with publications listed
  • a letter providing the following information: statement indicating the relevance and importance of the travel to current work in cancer control, dates of travel and itinerary, details of any other awards or travel grants held or applied for and costs of fares and accommodation
  • abstract that has been submitted
Notes: The travel must be undertaken for the stated purpose and completed by 31 January of the following year. Applications should be based on the least expensive economy class travel and relevant university or state government daily allowance rates.
