About us
Each and every day around 23 South Australians are diagnosed with cancer, a disease that will affect one in three people at some time in their lives.
Since 1928 the Cancer Council SA has worked resolutely to defeat cancer, and create hope for the people it affects, by providing up-to-date information, practical and emotional support for cancer patients, their families, and carers. The Cancer Council SA is extremely proud of it's fundraising activities. Especially so given that every dollar raised or donated goes directly towards reducing the impact of cancer. This is a unique and envious position for a non for profit organisation is only possible thanks to some very wise investments made some years ago. We invest in vital research to find new pathways to prevent, treat and cure cancer, and in prevention and early detection campaigns. In addition, we support health professionals with their cancer diagnosis and care by providing the latest evidence-based prevention and treatment information. We are making progress. We know how to prevent at least half of all cancers, through making simple life choices. Advances in early detection and treatment mean that around 60 per cent of people survive cancer, and for those where cure isn't possible, quality of life can be greatly improved. As the state's leading independent, cancer-related non-government organisation, the Cancer Council SA is uniquely placed as a resource for action, a voice for change and a stalwart champion to continue leading the fight against cancer.
