by Gwenda McMurtrie
Upcoming Events The public is invited to attend the Southern Vales launch of The Cancer Council South Australia lifestyle guideline pamphlet "Cancer - Reduce Your Risk". The launch will take place at the Southern Vales Community Health Centre at the Seaford Ecumenical Mission (Cnr. Grand Blvd. & Main Street, Seaford) on Thursday 9 September @ 2.00pm. Our Guest Speaker will be: Assoc. Professor Brenda Wilson, Chief Executive, The Cancer Council South Australia. This promises to be an interesting and informative meeting and all are invited to attend. History Thanks for your interest in the Southern Vales Branch of The Cancer Council South Australia. You'd be welcome to join us. We meet monthly, 1.30pm each 1st Wednesday, in the Institute Hall Library, Main Road, McLaren Vale. Postal address is: PO Box 339, McLaren Vale 5171. This branch of community-minded volunteers, formed in 1995, broadly covers Onkaparinga Council areas south of the Onkaparinga River. We raise funds to support the mission of The Cancer Council - which is to reduce the impact of cancer by focussing on: Over the years the branch has raised many thousands of dollars to further The Cancer Council's work. Branch fundraising functions have included: - Wine Auctions, Raffles, the 'Money Spinner Wishing Well' and our Annual Concert at McLarens on the Lake. We also raise funds from events organised by others, such as a Charity Bowls and Golf Days. We support The Cancer Council's fundraising functions such as Australia's Biggest Morning Tea; Daffodil Day; Relay for Life; Badge Day, etc. All proceeds from branch functions are given to The Cancer Council. Our Annual Variety Concert takes place on the last Sunday of August at McLarens on the Lake. We invite you to come along - perhaps making up a party. We need more members to help our important work. Some members attend meetings and help with Branch organisation. Others wish to help at functions and generally support our anti-cancer program. In any case, each member can help reduce the impact of cancer while at the same time meet new friendly people and take part in worthwhile events that help others. Interested? We invite young at heart people of any age to find out more about us. Please contact: |
