    Their Story

The Macclesfield Young at Heart Club, led by founder Cathy Megson-McAllister have raised more than $80,000 through their annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea events.

This year the dedicated group have decided to do something a little bit different and ‘bare it all’ to support Cancer Council SA through a unique fundraising calendar, inspired by iconic British movie Calendar Girls and featuring the Macclesfield Young at Heart Club members.

Like many South Australians, Cathy knows firsthand the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis. In 2005 she was diagnosed and survived an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while also watching her dad lose his life to asbestosis and her mum lose her life to liver and stomach cancer. Then, in 2016 her beloved husband Barry passed away to acute myeloid leukaemia.

“Hosting an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is not just about my own journey, it’s about us all getting together and supporting each other. Our hope is that through getting together and doing something outside of our comfort zone we can raise as much money as we can and make a real difference.” – Cathy Megson McAllister
