Tackling cancer takes all of us, and it is a battle we can’t take on without you.

Leaving a gift in your Will is a lasting legacy.

Gifts in Wills have been an important part of our story at Cancer Council SA for more than 90 years and we rely on the kindness and generosity of the South Australian community. You don’t need to be wealthy to leave a gift in your Will. All gifts, large and small, play a role in helping us to tackle cancer.

If you’re considering leaving a gift in your Will, we would love to talk to you in confidence and hear about your intentions.

Margaret watched breast cancer impact three generations—her great grandmother, her grandmother, and her mum. So when her best friend was diagnosed, she turned to Cancer Council 13 11 20.

Hopefully they’ll have to wait a little while, but my little contribution (whenever it happens) will be a gift to help Cancer Council SA continue their important work.” – Margaret, Cancer Council SA Gift in Will supporter.

Leaving a gift in your Will is a personal decision but it can be helpful to tell your loved ones about what you’ve planned.
  2. Decide what kind of gift to leave.
There are three main ways to leave a gift in your Will to Cancer Council SA:
    Residual
You can leave a portion of your estate, or the balance remaining after loved ones and expenses are provided for.
    Specific
You can leave a specific sum of money.
    Asset
You can leave specific items of value such as shares or real estate.
  3. Get the help of a professional solicitor
Whatever your circumstances, we recommend that you see a solicitor when writing or updating your Will to ensure your wishes will be fulfilled.
  4. Making your Will
To include your chosen gift to Cancer Council SA when you write your Will, provide your solicitor with the following wording:“I, [insert name here], give to the Anti-Cancer Foundation South Australia trading as Cancer Council SA (ABN 31 469 615 538) [insert type of gift], free of all duties and deductions, for its general purposes.
