    Every day people from all walks of life donate their time, knowledge and energy to help Cancer Council SA support people affected by cancer.  People like you make our vital work possible: it is through the time and care of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things.

    Cancer Council SA is always looking for people with various backgrounds, talents and skills. We take care to ensure your placement is of real benefit to the community and satisfying for you. 
    Throughout the year we offer a range of short and long-term roles, projects and activities that can match your skills, interests and availability.  As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to:

      Join the Adelaide Hills Relay For Life Event Leadership Team

      Cancer Council's Relay For Life is all about celebrating the courage of local people affected by cancer and spreading hope. It is a unique event where teams of up to 20 people challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight to symbolise that cancer never sleeps.

      Events are a hive of energy, colour and excitement all powered by passionate members of the community. They are the volunteer organising committee and are ultimately responsible for making the event possible.

      There are a variety of roles to suit all skills and personalities so really it's about finding one that you love, grabbing hold of it and making it your own.

      Opportunities like Team Recruitment and Development, Marketing, Sponsorship and Fundraising, Mission delivery, Volunteer coordinator and Ceremonies are all up for grabs.

      If that's a yes, we want YOU to take up the important role of Event Lead on the Adelaide Central Relay For Life volunteer Event Leadership Team, the largest Relay for Life event in South Australia.

      Cancer Council's Relay For Life is all about celebrating the courage of local people affected by cancer and spreading hope. It is a unique event where teams of up to 20 people challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight to symbolise that cancer never sleeps.

      Events are a hive of energy, colour and excitement all powered by passionate members of the community. They are the volunteer organising committee and are ultimately responsible for making the event possible.

      With the support of Cancer Council SA, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire event, supporting the Event Leadership Team to ensure tasks are completed, leading meetings, acting as the spokesperson and contact for the event and managing an event budget.

      In return, you will take up an enviable position on the Adelaide Central Event Leadership Team and work with some of the state's most dedicated and passionate volunteers. You will have the outstanding opportunity to build strong networks and engage with all areas of your local community. You will also be working with Cancer Council SA in its mission to beat cancer.

    • Gardener

      Cancer Council SA believes we can and will beat cancer, and there are things we can all do every day to bring that day closer. We are here for people affected by cancer today and to prevent and manage cancer into the future.

      Volunteers are an integral part of the extensive services delivered by Cancer Council SA. We currently have over 200 volunteers who dedicate regular and ongoing time to help us achieve our mission of a cancer free future. We highly value the donations we receive and look to minimise costs as much as possible respectively, therefore the work our volunteers do in the office, lodges and offsite is invaluable.

      We are currently looking for a volunteer with a passion for gardening to help us maintain our plants and gardens around the Head Office on Greenhill Road. Ideally, this role will be 1 day a week however we are happy to discuss further depending on your circumstances.

      Initially, this role will require some laborious tasks to clear out and tidy up some of the existing plants. More frequently though, the gardening tasks will be more focussed on maintenance. A basic knowledge of irrigation systems and horticulture would be desirable as suggestions on improvements are welcome. All equipment will be provided by Cancer Council SA.

    • In Memory Volunteer

      Are you compassionate and empathetic? Would you like to make a real difference in the lives of others?

      We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, empathetic volunteer interested in assisting Cancer Council SA (CSAA) with our in Memory program where donations are made in memory of a loved one.

      This opportunity involves

      • Collecting donations from the offices of funeral homes
      • Attending a funeral service to collect donations from people attending the service in lieu of flowers and returning donations to the Cancer Council SA office
      • Setting up a display table at funeral services
      • Assisting people in completing their donation form
      • Developing and maintaining friendly relationships with funeral home staff

      You will need

      • Flexibility to attend funerals 
      • Ability to represent Cancer Council SA in a sometimes upsetting environment at funerals
      • A very compassionate approach to bereaved families
      • A current South Australian driving license
      • A high level of interpersonal communication skills 
      • A good understanding of the work of CCSA
      • Good organisation and time management skills
      • To be completely reliable in fulfilling commitments or providing prior notice to enable alternative arrangements to be made where necessary

    • Volunteers for Morning Tea

      Do you have excellent communication and people skills?

      Are you interested in working with rural people who are staying in Adelaide for cancer treatment?

      Are you able to introduce yourself to people confidently and with respect?

      Do you have an ability to multitask and be flexible?

      Can you provide an ongoing, commitment for a couple of hours a week or fortnight?

      If so, you may be interested in one of our Volunteer positions.

      Morning Tea Volunteers work with Lodge Management, Staff and Social Workers to provide a safe and creative space for people who are undergoing cancer treatment.

      Morning Tea is offered weekly to all guests to provide them an opportunity for social interaction and creation of support networks.

      The current position is available at Cancer Council Lodge Greenhill every Thursday, 10.00 am – 12.00 noon.
