Cancer Council SA has partnered with SA Government, the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and the three major universities – The University of Adelaide, Flinders University and University of South Australia in the Beat cancer project.
We believe that no one should lose a loved one to cancer. That’s why we are committed to working towards a cancer-free future and improving the quality of life and survival rates for people with cancer.
Generous support from the community enabled Cancer Council SA to invest $10 million in the Cancer Council’s Beat cancer project which is matched by $10 million from SA Health. This means a total pool of $20 million over 5 years – the largest single source of funding for cancer research and infrastructure in South Australia.
Over the last 20 years in Australia we have seen cancer deaths fall by approximately 14% and survival rates for many common cancers increase by as much as 30%, thanks to the contribution of cancer research
Through investing these funds with SAHMRI, Cancer Council’s Beat cancer project will provide a focused, strategic and collaborative way of delivering cancer research funds than ever before.
