People with cancer are 40% more likely to die of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than non-cancer controls making CVD the leading cause of death among cancer survivors. The proposed research aims to identify the variation and predictors of excess deaths from CVD across different cancers using a meta-analysis of existing evidence and estimate their population level and health economic impact using South Australian data. We will then co-design a CVD care pathway and accompanying resources to guide the delivery of optimal CVD care for patients at risk. The co-design with be undertaken in collaboration with consumers, health care providers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure relevance to the Australian health care system and to facilitate future translation into policy and practice.
