This month, 79 incredible fundraisers and 16 support people set off on their Honda CT110 Postie Bikes for the annual Apex Outback Postie Bike Ride.

Established in 2007 with just seven riders, the Postie Ride has grown to become an iconic community event that raises vital funds to support South Australians impacted by cancer.

The ride started in Port Augusta, with our very own Chief Executive Kerry Rowlands waving the chequered flag. The riders then headed out across the Eyre Peninsula, braving storms, wind and some of the toughest & most challenging off-road terrain South Australia has to offer.

Three days later, the riders arrived in Wundinna, celebrating another epic ride, and more importantly, more than $151,000 raised for Cancer Council SA.

The money raised from this year’s Apex Outback Postie Ride will go towards funding the common dining, kitchen and balcony area in Cancer Council SA’s new, integrated cancer building at 202 Greenhill Road in memory of the events inaugural Chairman Justin “Buzz” Voumard.

Neil Sawley, one of the organisers of the event, said it was an honour to be able to remember Buzz while also supporting South Australians impacted by cancer.

“The Apex Outback Postie Ride started as a dream to make a difference and Buzz was such an integral part of that dream. To see that dream not only become a reality, but also make a real difference to our community, is truly humbling and is such a beautiful way to honour his memory.”

“We’re all so proud to be a part of an event that means so much to so many.”

Since the event started, the Apex Outback Postie Bike Ride has raised more than $1.5 million.

While this year’s fundraising efforts will go towards the new building, past funds raised have gone towards the Apex Copper Coast Retreats at Wallaroo, which provide a weeks of free accommodation to South Australians and their families impacted by cancer.

On behalf of everyone at Cancer Council SA, congratulations to the 2022 Apex Outback Postie Bike Riders. We can’t wait to see you back on the bikes in 2023!
