At Cancer Council SA, we’re here for all people and all cancers, across all stages of the cancer experience. Two people who are there providing vital support to those currently going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment are Cancer Council SA Counsellors, Helen and Cris. By hosting a Cancer Council Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this year, you can help ensure they can continue to be a listening ear, helping hand and constant support to thousands of South Australians during a time they need it most.

“We are Helen and Cris, two of the counsellors here at Cancer Council SA, and thanks to the support of dedicated Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea hosts over the years, we have been able to support countless South Australians whose lives have been turned upside down over the past year by a cancer diagnosis and coronavirus.

We saw the impact of it all firsthand.

Every day, we were experiencing an increase in telephone call appointments, increased check-in calls, and hearing the complex and overwhelming feelings of fear and worry too many South Australians were faced with.

Many of our clients saw going to treatment as a scary thing as they had to go alone, they were worried about falling through the cracks in the system, and most of all they felt incredibly isolated.

But, because of the funds raised through events like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, we were able to be there to be a listening ear, a helping hand and a constant support to thousands of South Australians during a time when they needed it most. This simply isn’t possible without the funds raised through events like Biggest Morning Tea.

2020 highlighted that cancer doesn’t occur in a vacuum. It has really highlighted the importance of cancer support, as well as how well the service was able to pivot and the flexibility of still be able to provide this service from home.

Throughout it all, Cancer Council SA provided a buoyant place for patience, as the calls we placed to clients helped them through the week.

We are so grateful for the support of the South Australian community who allow us to be there for those in our community experiencing a cancer diagnosis, their carers, family and friends.

We hope we can count on the support of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea hosts again this year, because cancer doesn’t stop.

With your help through making a cuppa for a cause, we can continue to be here every minute, every hour, every day for all South Australians impacted by cancer. And we can’t tell you just how much that means.”

Almost 150,000 Australians are diagnosed with cancer every year. That’s 150,000 families who need practical information and support.
