Cancer Council is calling on Australians to kick start summer in style with family, friends and loved ones this Stratco National Patio Day and raise vital funds to support those impacted by cancer.

There’s no denying that 2020 has been a challenging year—but with summer on the horizon and 2021 nearly here, Stratco National Patio Day is our chance to spend valuable time with the ones you cherish most.

Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Lincoln Size urged South Australians to get involved in National Patio Day and raise vital funds that will make a real difference.

“There is something special about backyard celebrations with family and friends, especially those you may not have seen for a while. National Patio Day is a wonderful chance to reconnect with those important to you and celebrate everything that is great about the Australian summer,” he said.

With two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70, Mr Size said National Patio Day also plays a vital role in educating Australians on how to cut their skin cancer risk.

“We know that over exposure to UV is responsible for 99 per cent of all non-melanoma and 95 per cent of melanoma skin cancers.”

“Now that we are out and about and enjoying outdoor activities again, it’s important that we don’t get complacent and neglect our skin. Summer is the perfect time to entertain family and friends with backyard barbeques and events, but it’s also the time when UV can be at its most damaging.”

“It’s important that whenever the UV is 3 and above, we protect our skin in five ways, including seeking shade under your favourite outdoor patio, and National Patio Day is a fantastic initiative which helps to reinforce that message while celebrating our iconic summer lifestyle,” he said.

CEO of Stratco Ben Miels urged Australians to get involved in National Patio Day in 2020 and make a difference to those who need it most.

“The patio is our very own home stadium—your front row seat to witness a game of backyard cricket and other family favourites. It’s also the perfect place to seek shade from the harsh summer sun,” he said.

“Stratco is thrilled to be involved with National Patio Day again in 2020, as we know how important sun protection is, especially during summer.”

“Stratco National Patio Day is our opportunity to celebrate under the shade of our favourite patio, enjoy backyard activities with family, friends, and loved ones and raise vital funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention, advocacy and support programs that will save lives.”

In 2020, National Patio Day hopes to raise $330,000, which will fund vital Cancer Council programs and services across the country.

Not only will funds raised support those impacted by cancer, every $20 you raise puts you in the draw to win a Stratco Home Stadium, valued at $30,000.
