Pedal power was in full force during our 2023 Ride for a reason, with South Australians hopping on their bikes and making every kilometre count in March to raise over $55,000 (and still counting) for South Australians impacted by cancer.

It was incredible to see so many South Australians join the Ride for a reason movement in 2023, and make every kilometre count, whether it’s on the road, on a track, in a spin class or at home.

Inspired by his late mother who passed away from bowel cancer, participant Peter organised a 24-hour non-stop cycling event at Trend Fitness Seaford, where he runs his personal training business.

Having survived cancer twice, the father of two gathered a team of supporters, with the help of Trend Fitness Seaford, to take turns riding a spin bike for 24 hours to raise funds to support South Australians impacted by cancer.

“The treatment I had 20 years ago compared to the treatment today has improved greatly and there are more and more people surviving than ever before, so obviously we’re on the right track,” Peter says.

The team raised over $3,400, with Peter and his team hoping to help fund research into improved treatments for others going through a cancer diagnosis.

Another of our incredible teams, ‘Team Mishmash’ were named our ‘Top Fundraising Team’ for 2023 after raising over $9,800! Some of the team started participating in Ride for a reason in 2007 as individuals, before they decided to join forces.

As a special thank you for their incredible fundraising efforts, they were treated to a special ride with Cancer Council SA ambassador Keith Conlon who took the team on a leisurely ride across the Adelaide Parklands.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Ride for a reason or supported our dedicated riders in 2023. If you’d still like to support our Ride for a reason participants, you can make a donation at rideforareason.com.au
