Facebook has created tools that enable you to raise funds for us via the social network.

You can do this by:

  • creating a birthday fundraiser
  • creating a fundraising page
  • adding a donation button to your posts.

Any donations made to Cancer Council SA using these tools will be received via PayPal Giving Fund and sent to Cancer Council SA within 90 days. Receipts will also be issued by PayPal Giving Fund as they collect and distribute these donations.

Because of this two-step process, we are not provided with your contact details. Please let us know if you are fundraising for us via Facebook messenger or events@cancersa.org.au so we can get in touch and thank you.

Create a birthday fundraiser

Leading up to your birthday, Facebook will prompt you to ask your friends to donate funds to your nominated charity in lieu of a gift. This birthday fundraising page is like a Facebook event, with the addition of a goal donation amount. It allows your friends and family to donate via PayPal or credit card to Cancer Council SA (The Trustee For Anti-Cancer Foundation of South Australia) in just a few simple clicks.

You can share your birthday fundraiser on your Facebook feed and invite your friends and family to donate to Cancer Council SA.

Follow these steps to create a birthday fundraiser:

  1. Create your birthday fundraiser.
  2. Select Cancer Council SA as your chosen charity (The Trustee For Anti-Cancer Foundation of South Australia).
  3. Choose the goal amount of money you would like to raise.
  4. Select the date you want your fundraiser to end.
  5. Add a title and description for your fundraiser.
  6. Create and share with your family and friends!
  7. Let us know via Facebook messenger or events@cancersa.org.au that you have created a fundraiser so we can say thank you.

Create a fundraising page

You can support Cancer Council SA by setting up a fundraising page at any time. This is similar to the birthday fundraiser, however, this page can be created for personal reasons.

To create a fundraiser,  visit Facebook and follow these steps:

  1. Click ‘Fundraisers’ in the left menu of your news feed.
  2. Click ‘Raise Money’ and select ‘Charity’.
  3. Select Cancer Council SA as your chosen charity (The Trustee For Anti-Cancer Foundation of South Australia).
  4. Fill in the fundraiser details and choose a cover photo.
  5. Click ‘Create’.
  6. Let us know via Facebook messenger or events@cancersa.org.au that you have created a fundraiser so we can say thank you.

Add a donation button to your posts

The ‘Donate’ button is a quick way for you to donate and support Cancer Council SA, without leaving Facebook. To add a donate button to your post, follow these steps:

  1. Click ‘What’s on your mind?’ on your news feed or timeline.
  2. Click the ‘…’ button and scroll down to select ‘Support non-profit’.
  3. Search for and select Cancer Council SA as your chosen charity (The Trustee For Anti-Cancer Foundation of South Australia) from the list of charities to support.
  4. Add some wording to your post about why you are supporting us.
  5. Tag ‘@CancerCouncilSA’ so we can personally thank you.
  6. Click ‘Share’.
Please note: if you are taking part in a Cancer Council fundraising event such as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea or Girls’ Night In, we do not recommend that you add a Facebook donate button to your posts. We are not currently able to sync these donations to your Cancer Council SA fundraising page.

If you are participating in one of our events, we recommend that you share your Cancer Council fundraising page on Facebook instead. Please contact us for more support in this area.
