The Hon. Karlene Ann Maywald has been announced as the new Chair of the Cancer Council SA Board, taking over from retiring Chair Rear Admiral Kevin John Scarce, AC, CSC. 

A Non-Executive Director and Chair with over 20 years of experience, Ms Maywald has a deep understanding of the Government sector.

She was the representative for the seat of Chaffey in the South Australian House of Assembly from October 1997 until March 2010 and during her tenure, held the position as South Australia’s Minister for Water and Security from 2004 to 2010.

Ms Maywald also holds numerous executive positions, including the Chair of the International Centre for Excellence Water Resources Management, Chair of ModMed and a Director of the Goyder Institute.

Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Lincoln Size said that Ms Maywald will bring a wealth of knowledge across the corporate, government and not-for-profit sector to the role as Cancer Council SA Board Chair.

“Karlene is a highly respected member of the South Australian community and her extensive experience across government and business will be an invaluable asset to the Cancer Council SA Board and Management Team.”

Ms Maywald said that she is looking forward to taking on the new role within one of the state’s leading not-for-profits.

Ms Maywald was voted in as Board Chair at the Cancer Council SA Board Meeting on Friday 14 February.
