South Australian Golfers are encouraged to take to the green for a 72-hole endurance golf challenge to raise vital funds for Cancer Council SA.
New to South Australia, The Longest Day will be held on Monday 14 December, which falls during the week of the longest day of the year. If golfers can’t tee off on that day, then they can hit the green anytime during December.
There are three different option for golfers of different levels—the 72 hole Longest Day (4 rounds), the 54 hole Longer Day (3 rounds) or the 36 hold Long Day (2 rounds).
Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Lincoln Size encouraged all South Australian golfers to tee off and make a difference.
“We’re really excited to be bringing The Longest Day to South Australia and encourage all golfers to sign up and take on the challenge.”
“You can join with your friends, challenge other members of your club or take on the challenge solo, with all the money raised funding Cancer Council SA’s vital research, prevention and support services for all South Australians.
Mr Size says the event is not only a chance to make a difference, it’s also a great way to educate golfers on the importance of sun protection whenever the UV is 3 and above.
“Two in three Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer by their 70th birthday, with men aged over 40 more likely to be diagnosed and to die from melanoma than women of the same age.”
“Taking part in the Longest Day is not only a great way to raise vital funds for South Australians, it’s also a chance for golfers to educate their themselves and their club on the importance of sun protection whenever the UV is 3 and above,” he said.
“If you enjoy golf and the great outdoors, then this is a fantastic way to educate family, friends and loved ones and make a real difference to the lives of South Australians impacted by cancer.”
In its first year, Cancer Council SA is hoping to recruit 100 golfers to take on The Longest Day Challenge and raise $80,000 for Cancer Council SA. For more information and to register visit the Longest Day website.
