Role:
Educator

Tonya is a proud Aboriginal and Maori woman originally from Port Augusta, South Australia.

Previously employed as a Tobacco Action Worker with the Port Augusta Hospital from 2012, Tonya has an understanding and passion to support people to reduce the rates of tobacco use. It is through her most recent role within the Youth AOD Sector based in Cairns to address inhalant use throughout Far North Queensland, which led to her role as the Queensland Supply Reduction Coordinator, that she found her calling. This role is where Tonya found her passion in upskilling professionals to build their capacity in addressing VSU by providing the tools and education to support the young people within their communities.

“I am determined to empower our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce to have the skills, knowledge and understanding of Tobacco to support their communities, especially our young people as they are our future leaders.”
