We are so excited to announce that we officially have the keys to our new home for all South Australians impacted by cancer at 202 Greenhill Road Eastwood, with staff and guests set to move in over the coming weeks.
Last month, the incredible team at Sarah Constructions finalised construction on our new, integrated cancer building. The construction began in March 2021, and over the past 19 months we have watched with excitement as the five-story building came to life.
Cancer Council SA has been busy behind the scenes planning the move to ensure that it is a smooth transition for our staff, volunteers, guests and suppliers.
Our priority is ensuring a smooth and comfortable transition for our Lodge guests from our existing accommodation at Flinders and Greenhill Lodge into our new 120-room accommodation facility for regional and remote South Australians travelling to Adelaide for cancer treatment.
We are also welcoming some new faces in our new building, including our new Concierge Volunteers, who will help our Lodge accommodation guests navigate our building and services, and ensure they enjoy their stay with us.
Lizzie, one of our Concierge Volunteers, will support guests with information and bring a smile to their day.
“I would like to be a friendly face for a Cancer Council SA guest and be able to provide support and help in whatever way I can,” Lizzie says.
“My dearest friend died last year as a result of cancer. The fear I saw in her when she realised, she had to leave her home to receive treatment is one I will never forget.”
“I can only hope my role as Concierge Volunteer will give some comfort to guests and make their stay less confronting, particularly if it’s a first time stay.”
This once in a generation project would not be possible without the support of the South Australian community and we can’t wait to share further updates with you as we get closer to opening our doors.
