Our Executive

Cancer Council SA’s Executive team are committed to supporting every South Australian impacted by cancer through leading our prevention, research and support programs.

Kerry Rowlands

Chief Executive

With a commitment to delivering service excellence and driving a high performance culture, Kerry Rowlands is a champion for customer centred design that engages teams to achieve exceptional outcomes for the people they support.

Having led large, operational strategic and support teams, Kerry is a humanistic leader, passionate about developing and implementing transformational strategies that value and enhance internal strengths and capabilities.

Kerry has more than 20 years’ experience in senior roles in large organisations including SA Water, Kimberly Clark Australia and Faulding Pharmaceutical, with portfolio responsibilities across finance, public affairs, business development, customer service including digitisation, field operations and people and safety.

She is currently on the Immanuel College Council, is chair of their marketing committee and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She has formal qualifications in business and commerce and is also a Certified Practicing Accountant.

Kerry is excited to use her experience and knowledge to guide a team that has deep and meaningful connections to South Australians impacted by cancer.

Lucy Ayre

General Manager Finance and Governance

Lucy knows the impact of cancer firsthand, losing both her father and brother to cancer. She is passionate about making sure that people recognise and act upon the early signals of changes in their health, however small they may be, to reduce the impacts of cancer on their lives and their families. She is driven to ensure that she supports Cancer Council SA to continue to provide essential support and guidance to all SA families affected by cancer.

A member of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Lucy and has worked in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia. She has a strong background in finance and corporate management, having worked in financial services, media and local government as well as an extensive background in not-for-profit organisations. Lucy has a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Corporate Governance and has acted as company secretary for a number of companies.

A passionate believer in the power of information to make the best decisions, Lucy strives to ensure that financial information and management are key in the Cancer Council SA’s activities to maximise support for all South Australians impacted by cancer.

Dr Peter Diamond

Dr Peter Diamond has a love of research and a passion for helping people living with cancer. Peter has worked as a cancer research scientist for over 20 years.  He undertook a PhD in immunology, through the Department of Medicine at the University of Adelaide, and subsequently took up post-doctoral research positions at the Hanson Centre for Cancer Research, IMVS and SA Pathology working on gene regulation and blood cancers.

Peter has also worked for AusAid and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Thailand leading a multi-country HIV/AIDS prevention program across South-East Asia in collaboration with in-country Departments of Health and the UN. Upon returning to SA in 2014, he joined the Leukaemia Foundation to manage support services for SA and NT, act as the State Representative for SA and work on national policy and advocacy initiatives. For the last five years, Peter has held the role of National Head of Research for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Peter is thrilled to be joining Cancer Council SA and working with the team to help reduce the rate and impact of cancer in our community and support South Australian cancer researchers.

Toby Evans

General Manager Digital

With a background in digital transformation and programs, Toby has a passion for using cutting edge technologies and systems to ensure organisations are working collaboratively to make a difference in their community.

Toby has nearly 15 years’ experience in the digital sector. Prior to joining Cancer Council SA, Toby held senior leadership positions in public utilities, including driving significant digital transformation projects across the organisation.

Toby holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from UniSA and has a commitment to making sure that Cancer Council SA is able to use best practice digital systems to seamlessly support those impacted by cancer in our community.

Pauline John

General Manager People, Safety and Culture

Pauline brings two decades of experience in human resources having held senior roles across the disability, hospitality, and water sectors. Originally from Scotland, Pauline has successfully led teams across the UK and Australia, with a deep understanding of workforce engagement and organisational best practice which will be an asset to Cancer Council SA as we continue to build our safe, inclusive, and high-performing culture.

Pauline looks forward to working closely with the Cancer Council SA team and continuing to drive the people, safety and culture operations forward.

Paul Morton

Paul has an extensive background in fundraising, marketing, advocacy, and government relations, spending the last 17 years in the not-for-profit sector. He is passionate about the work Cancer Council SA does to reduce the rate and impact of cancer for all South Australians and aims to strengthen the organisation’s strategic direction across the portfolios of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, Government Relations and Prevention.

Prior to joining Cancer Council SA, Paul held senior leadership positions with both the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation as Head of Fundraising and Marketing, and at Guide Dogs SA/NT as General Manager Fundraising.
