Healthy Living after Cancer Program

Getting back to a healthy lifestyle after cancer is one of the most important things you can do for your health and wellbeing. The Healthy Living after Cancer Program can help you reach that goal over 12 weeks.

What does the Healthy Living after Cancer Program involve?

Our program is evidence-based and can support you to make healthy lifestyle changes through a series of four in-person workshops. These sessions will be delivered by qualified health professionals and supported by weekly phone coaching from a Healthy Living after Cancer nurse.

Over 12 weeks, we work with you to make healthy lifestyle changes by:

  • setting realistic goals for physical activity
  • healthy eating
  • enhancing emotional wellbeing
  • supporting recovery including ongoing side effects, returning to work and leisure activities, and sustaining long term health and lifestyle changes after cancer.

Our weekly phone coaching helps you stay on track as you’re setting goals and making changes. You’ll never have to do it alone. We’ll connect you with peers, so you can discuss and share ideas for healthy living after cancer.

It has been so uplifting to reach my goals! I’ve taken these things into my control and know that my whole family is benefitting also from a balanced and nutritious diet, as well as a lowered grocery bill.

Who is this program for?

Our Healthy Living After Cancer program is available to people who have completed active cancer treatment, or for people who have been diagnosed with certain types of cancer that require long-term treatment.

If you feel well enough to physically participate, you are welcome. A carer, partner or family member is welcome to attend with you.

*Participants must be over the age of 18.

Once your hair grows back everyone around you thinks that you’re OK, but I think that is the time you start to process what has just happened to you. Cancer Council SA’s Healthy Living after Cancer Program helped me feel grounded again. It gave me tools that I will continue to use when I need a reset. I know I can reach out to the hotline if ever there was a need and I don’t feel rudderless anymore.
