Cancer Council SA’s Summer Research Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who are nearing completion of their undergraduate university degree. The purpose of the scholarships is to help develop research skills and encourage further study or work in research.
What is Cancer Council SA’s Summer Research Scholarship?
Our Summer Research Scholarship encourages outstanding students who have completed their undergraduate university degree in the field of psychology or public health to explore or pursue a higher degree by research.
The scholarship also aims to:
- deepen understanding about the principles and practices of undertaking research
 - provide an opportunity to apply research knowledge in a practical and organisational context
 - stimulate students’ interest in research
 - provide an opportunity to interact with students and staff who are actively involved in research
 - gauge the research aptitude of the successful applicants, as a potential pathway to future collaboration.
 
What does the Summer Research Scholarship involve?
Summer Research Scholars will be placed with Cancer Council SA’s Behavioural Research team. There, they will participate in an ongoing research project or undertake a substantial piece of supervised research work.

Scholarships run for six weeks, between November and January, and will be undertaken at Cancer Council SA, 202 Greenhill Road Eastwood.
The scholarship is expected to be undertaken on a full-time basis (38 hours per week). Part time is negotiable. Students will receive a one-off payment per scholarship of $2,700*.
*Amount based on full-time award (38 hours per week over six weeks). Part time recipients will receive a reduced scholarship proportional to negotiated scholarship duration.
Who is eligible for Cancer Council SA’s Summer Research Scholarship?
You are eligible for Cancer Council SA’s Summer Research Scholarship if you are:
- an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia, New Zealand citizen, holder of a permanent humanitarian visa, or an international student who is currently studying at a South Australian University and holds a current appropriate visa permitting study in Australia
 - studying an undergraduate (Bachelors) level program (equivalent programs ineligible) at a South Australian University
 - nearing completion or have completed their Bachelor of Psychology or Bachelor of Public Health at a standard acceptable for admission to an Honours or Masters program
 - currently enrolled in or have completed their psychology degree in the past 12 months.
