Greenhill Lodge accommodation

We’re here for every South Australian impacted by cancer, no matter where they live. Greenhill Lodge provides a home away from home for regional South Australians who need to travel to Adelaide for treatment and cancer-related appointments.

Greenhill Lodge is located at 202 Greenhill Road Eastwood and provides 120 rooms of supported accommodation, alongside a range of onsite support services, kitchen and dining facilities, and communal spaces. It is also home to Cancer Council SA’s research and prevention programs – all under one roof.

This critical service wouldn’t be possible without generous support from the South Australian community. Together, in the past year alone, we provided over 35,700 nights of accommodation at our Greenhill Lodge for regional guests travelling to Adelaide for cancer treatment.

What support services are available at Greenhill Lodge?

During their stay at Greenhill Lodge, our guests have access to a range of on-site support services. These include:

  • Social work: Our team of social workers are here to discuss practical issues, provide information about services, and offer a safe and confidential space to talk about some of the issues a cancer experience can bring.
  • Transport to Treatment: Our free, volunteer-run bus service that transports our guests from Greenhill Lodge to metropolitan medical centres and hospitals.
  • Counselling services: Our team of professional counsellors are experienced in supporting people impacted by cancer and can help manage the emotional impact a cancer diagnosis can bring.

Information and support from qualified health professionals: Our Cancer Council 13 11 20 Information and Support Service connects callers with a qualified health professional who can answer any questions, provide emotional support and connect guests with other services that may help.

It means so much to country people like me. We know we can come and get a beautiful room, a hot meal, transport to treatment – and you don’t have to go looking for a laundromat. And I am here every 21 days, like clockwork. If we’d had to pay for accommodation elsewhere, I would have to come up by myself, without my husband. We couldn’t have afforded it. I actually don’t know how I would have done it.

What facilities can guests access at Greenhill Lodge?

Centrally located at 202 Greenhill Road Eastwood, Cancer Council SA’s Greenhill Lodge provides:

  • multiple communal kitchen facilities where guests can prepare meals, just like at home
  • onsite evening dining for nights when guests are too tired to cook
  • dedicated quiet breakout spaces for when guests need a moment of rest or reflection
  • an activity hub where guests can socialise with each other and volunteers are on hand to make a cup of tea or have a friendly conversation
  • dedicated concierge volunteers available to greet guests when they arrive and help them navigate the building
  • a dedicated information and resource area to provide answers to questions and reassure guests that they are not alone in their experience
  • culturally appropriate accommodation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • dedicated family rooms and play spaces to ensure the whole family is supported
  • onsite free parking and shopping facilities within walking distance.

At the start I was in hospital for about two weeks and then I was back every three weeks to have chemo treatment. Sometimes the treatment lasted well over a week. To come back to somewhere like this that’s so pleasant and accommodating, means everything. You get to know the people here, it’s wonderful because for nearly 12 months now, they’ve been my second family because I’ve been away so long.

Ken, Greenhill Lodge guest from Menindee
