Funding opportunities

We are proud to work with leading research partners in South Australia to invest in world-class research happening right here in our state. 

Cancer Council SA is one of the state’s largest not-for-profit funders of cancer research supporting some of the state’s best and brightest cancer researchers conducting research across all aspects of cancer at Flinders University, the University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia and SAHMRI.

Cancer Council SA Research Fellowships

Cancer Council SA’s Research Fellowship Program is a South Australian initiative which invests in the state’s best and brightest early and mid-career researchers to support and advance research that is working towards the next cancer breakthrough.

Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fund

The Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fund was established by Marjorie Jackson-Nelson—the Lithgow Flash and former Governor of South Australia—in memory of her husband, Australian Olympic cyclist, Peter Nelson who passed away from leukaemia.

Project grants

Cancer Council SA’s Research Program invests in groundbreaking cancer research projects happening here in South Australia that have just missed out on funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grant.

Catalyst Grant Scheme

Cancer Council SA has partnered with Health Translation SA to fund the cancer-related stream of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Catalyst Grant Scheme in 2024 and 2025.

Cancer support and wellness research fellowships

Cancer Council SA have partnered with Flinders Foundation and Flinders University to invest in high-impact research in the areas of cancer survivorship, wellness and support, with a strong focus on improving the quality of life for people impacted by cancer.
