Transport to Treatment Volunteer Driver

Role overview and community outcomes

Cancer Council SA’s Greenhill Lodge provides a home away from home for regional and remote South Australians who need to travel to Adelaide for their cancer treatment with 120 rooms of supported accommodation, alongside cancer prevention, research and support services to ensure no one has to go through cancer alone.

For regional people impacted by cancer, the idea of travelling to a hospital for cancer treatment or appointments when you don’t live locally can be overwhelming at first. That’s why Cancer Council SA provides a Transport to Treatment service for our Greenhill Lodge guests.

As a volunteer transport driver, you will collect guests from Greenhill Lodge and transport them to one of four medical centres and hospitals across metropolitan Adelaide and return them to Greenhill Lodge post-treatment.

Broad role requirements:

  • Provide friendly and safe transportation for guests and be responsible for their welfare, comfort and safety while travelling from Cancer Council SA’s Greenhill Lodge to treatment centres.
  • Provide assistance as guests board and alight the vehicle.
  • Adhere to traffic regulations, guidelines prepared by Cancer Council SA (these include WH&S and accident injury reporting) and Safe Driving Policy.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • The ability to work independently with indirect supervision but also work as part of a team.
  • Empathy, compassion, and an understanding of people facing a major and distressing illness.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with people from various backgrounds.

Location:
Vehicles used are located at Cancer Council SA, 202 Greenhill Road Eastwood.

Drop off / Locations:
Royal Adelaide Hospital, Tennyson Centre, Flinders Medical Centre, St. Andrew’s Hospital

Shifts options:
Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), morning or afternoon shifts available.

Special conditions:
The successful volunteer will be a non-smoker and will hold a current SA motor vehicle license – ‘C’ class.

As a part of our recruitment process, you may be required to undertake a medical assessment, a driver assessment, validate any relevant vaccinations and criminal history checks and/or complete any practical assessment deemed appropriate to the role.

We cannot do the important work we do without our volunteers! Thank you for showing interest in joining our team.
