The Biggest Backyard Cricket Bash invites 10 teams to take part in a full-day, round-robin T10 competition on Adelaide Oval, with the top two teams battling it out in a grand final on the centre wicket alongside local cricket legends, with all funds raised shared between Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation and Cancer Council SA.
Proudly supported by the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA), South Australians are invited to gather their friends, workmates or sporting club for the rare opportunity to play on one of the world’s most iconic sporting grounds, with each team contributing $10,000 to vital mental health and cancer research.
Momentum for the event is already building, with the first team officially announced at the SACA in Business Mid-Winter Ball fundraising auction on 22 July, marking the formal launch of the Biggest Backyard Cricket Bash. Thanks to the support of White Horse Finance, who secured their place with a successful bid, the foundation has been laid for what is expected to become one of South Australia's most unique charity sporting events.
CEO of Breakthrough, John Mannion, said the event reflected the power of community in driving better outcomes for mental health.
"In Australia, nearly half of all people will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives. This statistic highlights why mental health research matters. Every breakthrough begins with research, and events like this help fund the discoveries that can improve treatment, provide hope, and ultimately save lives.

Chief Executive of Cancer Council SA, Kerry Rowlands, said the event offered a meaningful way for people to support South Australians impacted by cancer while enjoying a unique experience.
"All of us have, in some way, been touched by cancer. With almost 1 in 2 of us receiving a cancer diagnosis by the time we’re 85, this isn’t just a statistic — it’s something that touches all of us, our families, and our communities.

Funds raised through the event will support life-changing mental health and cancer research, helping Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation advance groundbreaking research and education initiatives, while enabling Cancer Council SA to deliver life-saving prevention, research and support to reduce the rate and impact of cancer for South Australians.
Organisers hope the inaugural Biggest Backyard Cricket Bash will become an annual fixture on the South Australian fundraising calendar, building ongoing support for two causes that impact countless individuals, families and communities across the state.
