Cancer Council SA has commenced plans for a new purpose-built 50-room accommodation facility near the Playford Health & Wellbeing Precinct in Adelaide’s north.
The new facility would complement the existing 120-room Greenhill Lodge in Eastwood, which provides critical accommodation and wrap-around support services for people who need to travel to Adelaide for treatment.
Cancer Council SA has committed $20 million towards this $60 million project and is actively pursuing external funding opportunities, including a potential Commonwealth Government contribution, to make this vision a reality.
“We are excited to see this project progressing to address a critical need for more supportive accommodation for regional South Australians travelling to Adelaide for cancer treatment,” Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Kerry Rowlands says.
“By building a new facility in Adelaide’s north, regional cancer patients will have improved access to high-quality cancer treatment and support services.
“With around 30 South Australians diagnosed with cancer every day, it is vital we continue to partner with all levels of government, cancer care service providers and our community to reduce the rate and impact of cancer for everyone.”
Cancer Council SA's Greenhill Lodge offers supportive accommodation for people travelling to Adelaide for cancer treatment.
The project is currently exploring site options, and Cancer Council SA anticipates the facility will be open and supporting a further 2,500 regional cancer patients and their carers from our centenary year in 2028.
We look forward to working with our community and supporters to deliver this amazing next chapter in supportive cancer care, and reducing the rate and impact of cancer for all South Australians.
