Mark is sharing his experience with bladder cancer to help others

After going to the toilet and noticing blood in his urine, Mark received a bladder cancer diagnosis that has had a big impact on his lifestyle. The support he received from Cancer Council SA throughout his diagnosis and treatment inspired him to become a Cancer Connect volunteer, to support other men going through a similar cancer experience.

New study shows that melanoma rates are declining in South Australians under forty

Using data collected over a twenty-year period (1997-2016), a new study published in Cancer Epidemiology reports a reduction in melanoma incidence rates in South Australian young people.

Ashlynne shares her experience with lymphoedema

Going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment is an incredibly overwhelming and life-changing experience. But for some people, their experience doesn’t end when treatment finishes with life after cancer treatment presenting other challenges, like a diagnosis of lymphoedema. We spoke to Ashlynne about her experience with lymphoedema after breast cancer to raise awareness about this lifelong condition.

Researcher investigating new treatment to prevent metastatic breast cancer

Survival rates for people with breast cancer have increased significantly, however there is still no effective treatment for metastatic breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. That’s why, Cancer Council Beat Cancer Project funded researcher, Associate Professor Theresa Hickey from the University of Adelaide is investigating a new treatment which aims to prevent breast cancer from spreading.

Social Work is one of the vital services Cancer Council SA offers to our regional guests, who have travelled to Adelaide for cancer treatment. Our Social Worker, Steve is on hand to chat to our guests about practical issues, provide information about services, and offer a safe and confidential space to talk about some of the issues a cancer experience can bring.

Ken’s 12 month stay at Cancer Council’s Greenhill Lodge

Ken is from Menindee, a small town 630 kilometres from Adelaide, and has been staying at Cancer Council’s Greenhill Lodge for 12 months, while receiving treatment for acute lymphatic leukaemia.

Broken Hill shaved their mullets for Cheryl and Rob

Broken Hill locals, Cheryl and Rob have both had their own individual cancer experiences – Cheryl with myeloma and Rob with prostate cancer – which have meant travelling to Adelaide for cancer treatment and staying at Cancer Council SA’s supported accommodation.
