With more than 11,400 South Australians diagnosed with cancer each year, chances are that most people living in your community have been touched by cancer. To put that into perspective, that’s close to the population of Port Augusta.

New data shows South Aussie bowel screening rates have dropped to their lowest since 2014

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) data shows that while South Australia has one of the highest bowel cancer screening participation rates in Australia, in 2020-21 South Australia recorded its lowest bowel cancer screening participation rates since 2014.

The 25th Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) Congress took place from 14 to 16 June 2023 in Adelaide, bringing together dedicated cancer nurses from across the country. The congress aimed to discuss developments in cancer care, exchange experiences and explore ways to improve care.

How Vince’s thyroid cancer diagnosis inspired him to become a Cancer Connect Volunteer

Vince was 25, had just finished university and was living a very active lifestyle – running marathons and playing soccer – when he received a shock diagnosis of thyroid cancer. The support he received during his cancer experience has inspired him to volunteer for Cancer Connect, providing peer support to others going through a similar experience.

Stewart’s kayak for cancer

Stewart set off in April to kayak a massive 630 kilometres across the Murray River, all while raising vital funds for South Australians impacted by cancer. Inspired by his family’s own cancer experience, he raised over $10,600 for vital cancer research.
